My Yoga Journey
I stumbled into my first yoga class completely unplanned. On a sheer whim, I decided to walk into a community yoga class that was being offered at the Soldiers Memorial Theatre in my hometown. After my first encounter with yoga, I was instantly hooked and yoga has played a major part in my life ever since.
After receiving a B.A. in Psychology from Marshall University and moving to Washington, D.C. yoga became even more instrumental. After making the correlation that practicing yoga on a regular basis improved my overall health, happiness, and self-awareness, from working long hours in the Private Sector and side gigs, I wanted to pass this energy on to others and decided to become a Yoga instructor. Then, I began my journey to India.
After receiving my 200 hour Yoga Teacher training from Vinyasa Yoga School in Rishikesh, India, I wanted to help incorporate workplace yoga to businesses, professionals, and children in the Washington, DC area. I started Om Shanti DC, LLC and began instructing private clients. My business grew and I began services in Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland. On January 1, 2019, I opened Eclectic Soul Yoga, the flagship Yoga Studio and part of Om Shanti DC Enterprise.
I was born and raised in WV, I went to college at Marshall University. Growing up I was very active, I was a dancer, and that was my passion. During junior, high school, and college, I competed in several pageants, and held titles such as Miss WV Teen America, Miss WV Teen International. After college I moved home (thank you, recession) and then to Miami. After living in Miami and working on South Beach, I moved to my original post-university destination of Washington, D.C. After living in Washington, D.C. running the rat race, working as a bartender and cocktail waitress, while holding a day job. I was burnt out. Six years later I decided to pursue my love of yoga which I had practice since the age of 16, and travel to India and live in Rishikesh, and complete my 200YTT. Once, back in DC, I hit a financial, mental, spiritual rock bottom, I decided I wanted better and launched, my company Om Shanti DC, LLC a Health and Wellness company focusing on Yoga and Meditation, servicing private and public sectors as well as the community and individuals. My business grew and I opened my first yoga studio, Eclectic Soul Yoga.
In my spare time I enjoy yoga, pilates, tea, especially Matcha, trying new cuisines and traveling. I enjoy reading all things manifestations, self-help, and inspirational.
